Título: Links Between Executive Functions and Language Development: Longitudinal and Intervention Studies

Resumo: This project addresses the yet poorly understood links between language, prosodic, and executive function (EF) skills by conducting innovative research on this relationship through three studies. Study 1 will examine the longitudinal link between language and EF with a passive design that considers changes over time with no specific or controlled intervention. Throughout primary school, typically developing children will be assessed annually for language and EF to explore whether earlier EF influences the rate of language growth or vice versa. Study 2 will test these dynamic links in an active design that includes controlled interventions. Preschoolers will be randomly assigned to four conditions that will be compared: (A) oral language intervention; (B) EF intervention; (C) prosodic intervention; and (D) control. Study 3 will cross-validate the results of Study 2 and test the added value of oral language, EF, and/or prosodic training in a population with language impairments.
