The International Conference on Teaching of Hindi in Multilingual and Multicultural Contexts is organised by the Centro de Linguística da Universidade de Lisboa (CLUL) and by the Centro de Estudos Indianos (CEI), in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (FLUL), the Embassy of India in Lisbon, Portugal and with the Fondation Luso-American for the Development with a focus on studies applied to the teaching and learning of Hindi as a second or foreign language. This conference responds primarily to the ongoing expansion of the network of Hindi-language centres in Europe and beyond and wishes to reflect on the challenges of teaching Hindi in linguistically diverse settings. In addition, research on the acquisition of Hindi as a second language is also encouraged.
