This project intends to design, build and make available online a digital atlas of the European Portuguese dialects (SynAPse). This atlas combines a parsed dialectal corpus with a syntactic search engine and a webGIS application that automatically and dynamically maps the results of the user-defined searches, highlighting the spatial correlations among syntactic phenomena and easing the identification of areas of syntactic convergence across the Portuguese territory. The research on the data detected by SynAPse will adopt an interdisciplinary perspective that interrelates the methodological and theoretical approaches of (micro)comparative syntax and geography (spatial statistics).
