Description:

The project aims to study the extensive collection of books and documents offered by the philologist, archaeologist and ethnographer José Leite de Vasconcelos (1858-1941) to the University of Lisbon.

The collection, which has not yet been subject to a full cataloging and needs restoration interventions, contains rare books on linguistics, and manuscript notes that provide new material for the history of philological studies in Portugal, the spelling reform, the introduction of comparative linguistics and dialectology.

Goals:

- Edit and publish on-line documents relevant to linguistic historiography;
- Include some of the works on digitization projects and dissemination of metalinguistic texts;
- Contribute to the history of Portuguese higher education, participating in activities of the centennial celebration of the Faculty of Letters, beginning in 2011.
